All salaries are expressed in Hong Kong dollars, calculated at the rate of 16 to the sterling.

Pensionable expatriation pay is admissible for an officer whose home is not normally in the Colony. basic salary be 8933.33 a month this amounts to $168 a month. basic salary 8933.33 to $1540 a month it amounts to $280 a month.

A temporary, variable and non- pensionable cost of living allowance is also payable. For a married officer with a child or children on the minimum of the scale, this amounts at present to 3803 month. For a married officer without children 80% of the standard allow- ance is payable. For an unmarried officer 60% of the allowance is payable. The cost of living allow- ance is payable only while the officer is resident in the Colony.

If available, government quarters are provided and a rent of not more than one seventh of basic salary is deducted.

First Class passages are provided 1 accordance with Colonial Regulation 81. An officer may be required to travel by air when on duty, or when proceeding to or from leave. The normal tour is 4 years, but for an officer with 20 years colonial service and over the age of 45, the tour is 3 years. The normal leave rate is one day for every seven days resident service, but for an officer with 20 years colonial service and over the age of 45, the leave rate is 2 days for every 11 days resident service. Local leave is also granted.
